The Leavenworth County Historical Society is spearheading the 'Reclaiming History Capital Campaign' to preserve and showcase the rich history of Leavenworth, the First City of Kansas. This initiative focuses on the acquisition of the Everhard Glass Plate Collection, a pivotal archive of nearly a century's worth of images that chronicle the early days of Leavenworth and Kansas. The campaign aims to construct and endow a dedicated archive and research center to safeguard these and other valuable collections. The proposed facility will feature enhanced archival storage, research areas, and public spaces designed to foster historical presentations and community engagement. This project not only aims to protect local heritage but also to facilitate educational and research opportunities, making the collections accessible to scholars, students, and the public.
